A very good interview with @JacquiMckenzie6. The Home Office history report that was released was developed seemingly to implement Recommendations 6 and 11 of the Windrush Lessons Learned Review. But has anyone in the HO read this report? youtube.com/watch?v=PGu15i…

Why was Windrush Home Office report suppressed for so long?
Just to be clear, this is the mainstream historiography of British immigration control. It is indisputable given the primary evidence. Officials wrote blatantly about "reducing the volume of coloured immigration to this country." There's no arguing it theguardian.com/uk-news/2024/s…
This is a truly wonderful opportunity for PhD students working on Indigenous and colonial topics in the Spanish Borderlands of North America. Please share! @WhaHistory @WHAGrads @clahistorians @NAISA__

The hostile environment has had an indiscernible effect on meeting immigration control targets, and has generated a significant scandal. So why have the policies proven so durable? #DigestedRead by @mcslaven politicalquarterly.org.uk/blog/the-puzzl… #immigration #UKpolitics #WindrushScandal

Smash the gangs - new tagline, same logic. Here’s @nandosigona reflecting on Labour’s new Channel command and the continuing securitisation narrative underpinning the UK’s approach to asylum birmingham.ac.uk/news/2024/carv…

New from our project team member!
New from me in @po_qu: I try to pick apart the staying power of the UK's "hostile environment" by asking why UK govts are so interested in internalising immigration control. Part of a special issue on immigration post-Brexit edited by @j_a_hampshire 1/ onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.11…
