I'm coloring a portrait of Frederick Knefler, the highest-ranking union officer of Jewish descent during the Civil War. The portrait is from the early 1900s and he is wearing these three medals. I'm having a hard time finding the uncolored one...and the one on the right.

Samuel S. Carroll graduated 44th of 49 cadets in the class of 1856 from @WestPoint_USMA. He was promoted to captain in the 10th U.S. Infantry shortly before the Civil War broke out (note the hat he is holding).
George McClellan was removed from command in November 1862. He became active in Democratic politics and was nominated presidential candidate in 1864 despite holding opposing views on the war to the Democratic platform. He was defeated by Lincoln 55% to 45% in the popular vote.
Maj. Gen. George B. McClellan consistently overestimated the manpower strength of his Confederate adversaries in the East leading to a failure of his Peninsula Campaign in 1862 and a failure to vigorously pursue Lee following the Battle of Antietam in September 1862.

George Brinton McClellan was born in @Philadelphia in 1826. He was admitted to @WestPoint_USMA at age 16, two years below the minimum age requirement. He graduated second in his class in 1846 falling to second because of poor drawing skills.
Major General George Brinton McClellan ( @USArmy ) served as general-in-chief of Union Armies in late 1861 - early 1862 and field commander of the Army of the Potomac until November 1862. He organized and trained the principle Union field army in the Eastern Theater.
Following the Civil War, Thomas Meagher was appointed Acting Governor of the Montana Territory. In 1867, he drowned in the Missouri River after falling from a steamboat at Fort Benton. One theory suggests he may have been murdered by political opponents. @DiscoverIreland
Thomas Meagher escaped Van Diemen's Land and made his way to the United States in 1852, settling in @NewYork studying law, working as a journalist, and travelling to present lectures on the Irish cause. He was a member of the Tammany Hall Democrats. @HISTORY @librarycongress
