First Earl Taft Award winner: Haruhisa Enomoto, Bruhat inversions in Weyl groups and torsion-free classes over preprojective algebras, 49 (2021). Congratulations to the author!!!

First Earl Taft Award winner: Susan Cooper, Giuliana Fatabbi, Elena Guardo, Anna Lorenzini, Juan Migliore, Uwe Nagel, Alexandra Seceleanu, Justyna Szpond, and Adam Van Tuyl, Symbolic powers of codimension two Cohen-Macaulay ideals, 48 (2020). Congratulations to the authors!!!

In memory of our journal’s founder, the Earl Taft Memorial Award will be conferred annually starting in 2024. The award will honor 2 outstanding papers published by Communications in Algebra during the 5-year period prior to the award year. For more, see tandfonline.com/journals/lagb2…

On September 20 of 1717, Colin Maclaurin was appointed to the Mathematics Chair at Marischal College, Aberdeen at the age of 19. This is the youngest at which anyone has been appointed a full professor at a university.

On Saturday, May 4 at 2PM, our board member Julia Plavnik will give an AMS Invited Address entitled “Quantum Symmetries” at the Spring Western Sectional Meeting at @SFSU. Learn more: ow.ly/xKvo50RqS5b

On this day (but in 1707), Leonhard Euler was born in Basel, Switzerland. Euler is the most prolific mathematician of all time. To honor him, we highlight the following Communication in Algebra paper related to the Euler's local characteristic: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

On this day of 1642, Isaac Newton was born in Lincolnshire, England (according to the pre-1752 English calendar). Check the following paper about Newton polygons. Merry Christmas and Happy 2024! tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

On this day of 1648, Blaise Pascal performed experiments to confirm the theory of atmospheric pressure and the existence of a vacuum. Take a look at the following paper, which introduces a generalization of his famous arithmetical triangle: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

On this day of 1855, James J. Sylvester began his duties as math professor at the Royal Military Academy, Woolwich, England. His tenure at Woolwich was one of the richest research periods of his life. Check out the following paper honoring his work: tandfonline.com/doi/full/10.10…

Symmetric interpolation, Exchange Lemma and Sylvester sums

The theory of symmetric multivariate Lagrange interpolation is a beautiful but rather unknown tool that has many applications. Here we derive from it an Exchange Lemma that allows to explain in a s...
