I'm having one of those "Keep coding and believe it will work when you have finished" moments.
It's amusing that the "smart" bulbs in my office at home are so representative of the problem I'm facing these days with tech. When they go wrong, they are a massive pain in the butt to fix. So today I just took them all out and went with dumb bulbs, problem solved!
