Food waste hack: eat the edges! Even fruits and vegetables that are commonly peeled such as apples, potatoes, carrots, and cucumbers, can be consumed in their entirety to reduce waste and boost nutrient intake.
Day 13 of #EarthMonth and #FoodWastePreventionMonth: Eat the edges. Instead of peeling apples, potatoes, and even bread crusts, keep them on! Not only are you reducing #FoodWaste, but these edges typically have vital nutrients your body needs.
We need to try something like this here in Central VA. We love the idea of crowdfunding community compost infrastructure opportunities.

In 2018 only 4.1% of food waste in the US was being composted. There's (literal) tons of room for improvement, and the time to take composting seriously both at home and in the workplace is now!

We're proud to contribute to composting initiatives in schools throughout the region. Exposing young people to the benefits of organics recycling is an important step forward in normalizing composting for the next generation.
Through a collaboration with USDA’s Office of Urban Agriculture and Innovative Production, food leftovers from 6 schools in Prince William County, VA are sorted, bagged, and collected before being processed into compost. Almost 8 tons of food were recycled in the first 6 weeks!
