Look at me. Working on a Friday ☺️
I went to visit the woman who inspired me to become an academic yesterday. She baked me a cake and reminded me of all the things that are possible. 🥰🥰🥰
I am editing an open-access, born digital collection called Poetry as Activism based on digitized collections from Ishmael Reed, Amiri Baraka, Tia Blassingame’s artist books, Dudley Randall’s Broadside Press, Langston Hughes and others. It will be available by Spring✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾✊🏾
All of the feels watching ZoraHead: The Life and Scholarship of Valerie Boyd. I remember being in the same room a decade ago listening to Valerie talk about being called to write the definitive Hurston bio, Wrapped in Rainbows, for the MMUF Rudolph P. Byrd lecture #jwji_zorahead
That @GloTheofficial intro hit me different. I was really her in high school, pulling up in my big body Buick with the peanut butter rag top and nobody couldn’t tell me I wasn’t a nerd and G. On everything Glo got it, she ate with the whole album!
Once again, the @EssenceProject is dazzling me. This latest thing is the literal manifestation of a dream and fervent prayers. I can’t wait to officially share the good news! ☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
More semesters like this for me, please.
I’m headed to DC for the first time since I bit up the courage to move South and start a new life. And it happens to be Howard’s homecoming weekend. I hope DC is as sweet as a forehead kiss from an old boyfriend I still love a lil’ bit.
This academic year feels like a series of beautiful metaphysical homecomings. 💜💜💜💜💜
I encouraged a friend to apply for awards outside their principle discipline for a book they published recently. They won! This feels like some of my best work. I love helping people connect with their things. ☺️☺️☺️☺️

Before Katt Williams there was The Boondocks…
Headed to dig in Cornell’s hip hop archives. Few know the well of trauma I’m working through to be here, so I’m choosing to be proud of myself for refusing to allow what New York did to me to stop me from finishing this book! I hope you do something brave today too. 💜💜💜💜💜
Dear @HBO, Hermione is Black. Please cast accordingly. Sincerely, Another brainy brave Black girl
Hey yall, its time I admit: I am indeed a “I like art” girlie. If you want to date me, take me to dinner with live music, lets go ride around and stare at street art, buy me supplies for my craft projects. Whatever you do, do it to stoke my creativity ☺️☺️
Aye man, I see what’s happening with Puff but I already finished a book chapter titled “This is the Remix: The Recursive Lives of Black Storytelling.” At most these indictments will get a footnote, telling folk that I ain't talking about that here check my #metoo article instead.
I am so grateful for the forces that conspired to ensure I am attending Furious Flower IV. 💜💜💜💜💜
