“The wilful destruction of Sure Start and the reductions of children’s benefits after 2010 has set back opportunities for millions of children’s futures. That’s why our country desperately needs a new Sure Start.” theguardian.com/education/2024…
In July 2024, we will begin recruiting a Youth Advisory Group for our Challenging Justice Inequalities project - with @CYCJScotland @CELCIStweets @StrathEDU @lawstrath and funded by @NuffieldFound Please do think about any children you know who may be interested. More info 👇🏽
A timely reminder:”Children who are in conflict with the law, particularly children who may be committing more serious and/or violent offences, are themselves vulnerable, with complex needs and experience of social adversity”. ⬇️ to find out more on the support these children need
Reflecting recent changes, and ahead of our #YJConf24 next week, we have updated our key messages. We strongly believe in a rights-based, trauma informed approach for all children and young people in conflict with the law. Read More 👇👇 cycj.org.uk/resource/cycj-…
A real-terms decrease of 2.8% (£619 million) for Scottish local authorities will mean a cold wind blowing for the Scottish third sector and hard times for citizens who rely on that support. We so badly need an equitable funding regime for the third sector in Scotland @TSIScotNet
Whilst no council was at immediate financial risk in 2022/23, there’s no certainty this will continue. An agreement with @scotgov to secure a sustainable, longer-term funding arrangement to deliver local services is all the more urgent. Our new report: bit.ly/LG_Financial_B…
Sobering news from the 2024 Scottish Homelessness Monitor: homelessness set to soar by a third over the next 2 years. @scotgov must act urgently to live up to its ambition of an equal+fair Scotland. Having a safe, warm and secure place to call home is utterly important. (1/n) 🧵
APPLICATIONS OPEN! The 2024 #PassTheMic opinion writers group is now open for applications. 20 women of colour will have a paid opportunity to write for one of our media partners, along with training and development workshops. passthemicscotland.org/2023/12/20/202…

Last day at school in 2023 in this howff. One of my favourite Xmas songs of all time being blasted out. The calm before the storm #WhiteWineInTheSun #AussieXmas #onPoint m.youtube.com/watch?v=fCNvZq…
Happy Winter Solstice! I am very ready for a bit more sunshine in my day with a gentle nod towards the wonder of wintering. Go gently - complicated time of year and all that…
It’s hard to explain what it is like in services that support children & families at this time of year. A passionate & committed but weary children’s services workforce holding all the joy, the loss, the hope, & the hurt with & for families. No other job comes close imho.
I am *still* hearing about school proudly announcing their plans to build flexible, open-plan learning spaces with no walls etc, and my advice to anyone thinking about doing this is do not do this.
"We cant be saying community & mean cliques. Community building isn’t aesthetics & vibes. Its building solidarity across struggles, its intergenerational & outside ppl like us/comfort zones. Times are too urgent to not find ways to advance each other’s liberations" Farzana Khan…
It's so normalised to have to be a certain way, to play the game, to use the right buzzwords to fit in & be a 'success'. It's exhausting, & a form of widespread masking. I'm inspired by people who are themselves- who show their real humanity. Think it takes courage & integrity.
This really resonated today. Grateful to work with some very genuine, skilled and insightful people who are working hard to support children and young people who have experienced trauma. This is a complicated time of year & #wintering is upon us. Talking things through helps ☺️
One conversation after another today- it's so uplifting to work with genuine, caring people. Simple as that. Ofc there's a massive strain & frustration out there, & yet there remains so much commitment to be thoughtful & kindhearted. I really felt that today, & it's restorative.
⏰Time 2 celebrate🎉 @ScotParl MSPs voted YES for incorporation of children's rights into law Congrats 2 all children & young people, past & present, who have championed for their rights over the last decade, ensuring protection for current & future children of🏴#UNCRCScotland
Excited to be sharing some of the early findings from this @NuffieldFound funded S.25 project with @BLLoughDennell and Micky Anderson. Still time to be involved if you have experience of 'Voluntary' care arrangements! 👉celcis.org/vca
NEW: In this new blog post about findings from research on voluntary care arrangements in Scotland, @BobBPorter, Research Lead at CELCIS, and @BLLoughDennell, Research Associate at CELCIS, discuss what parents have shared so far about their experiences: ow.ly/kW0F50QcP2a
The level of resources required to take children to medical appointments is massive.Time away from work, transport, all the magic needed to contain a nervous wee person, supporters who can contain & support me etc. How parents who have to do this more regularly manage is astounding
At Children 1st Parentline, we know that the lead up to the winter holidays can bring up mixed emotions for many. If you are struggling, or helping a child who is grieving, we can offer support👉children1st.org.uk/help-for-famil…
It was my honour to visit Bairns Hoose today 🧸 @children1st The work they do to support victims and their families is absolutely incredible. I want to thank all of the fantastic staff at Bairns Hoose for all that they do. #children #care #support
My wee maw is safe out of surgery. Didn’t realise how nervous I was. Diabetes, high blood pressure etc etc. As always, grateful for @nhsfife and the skilled team around her. Now to navigate recovery with a woman who thinks a wire brush and dettol solves all #ScottishMaws #IYKYK
