Porn has made choking seem normal in sex for too long. In reality it always comes with a risk, so we welcome the decision to make strangulation in pornography illegal. Find out more about the new legislation here: gov.uk/government/new…
Next month sees the return of @brookcharity's Sexual Health Week, and this year's focus is the online world. How do we make sense of what’s real and what’s not in a world of deepfakes and ChatGPT romances? Lots of questions - stay tuned for some answers...
Sexual assault or abuse by a friend is one of the most unexpected and devastating forms of betrayal. Unfortunately, because most sexual violence occurs in places we know with people we know, it is not uncommon. Friendship and intimacy should never be mistaken for consent.
Gaslighting and stealthing often go hand in hand. There are warning signs you can look out for but we know it can be difficult to see these red flags when our confidence and sense of what is okay is being undermined. Talking it over with friends can be a great start.
With young people aged 16-19 experiencing domestic abuse more than any other age group, RSHE for this age group is vital. We support the campaign by @BrookCharity for RSHE to remain mandatory until the age of 18. Sign the petition here: change.org/p/ask-the-gove…
Stalking is a pattern of Fixated, Obsessive, Unwanted and Repeated (FOUR) behaviours that cause serious alarm and distress and/or fear of violence. If you are being stalked, contact the police or get advice from the @live_life_safe National Stalking Helpline: 📱0808 802 0300
With increasing numbers of men and boys having their drinks spiked, it is clear that spiking is a crime that can impact everyone. If you experience spiking, remember it is not your fault and support is available.
We love this guide to the incel movement and how to tackle online misogyny from @school_sexed. It offers scripts and strategies for talking to young people about these ideas, and practical ways to tackle them in a classroom environment. static1.squarespace.com/static/57dbe27…
From September, schools in England will introduce new RSHE (Relationships, Sex and Health Education) guidance that directly tackles the rise of online misogyny and incel culture. See the new policy in full here: gov.uk/government/pub…
Heading to a festival this summer? It doesn't matter what the vibe is, how crowded it is, what you've taken or how much you've had to drink - consent still matters.
The no (or the uncertainty) always wins. Always. It’s okay that you want something and it’s okay that your partner doesn't. But you have to listen to the no and stop.
Knowing what feels good for you, and being able to communicate it, is as important as knowing how to check in about what feels good to someone else. Pleasure and communication are fundamental to forming safe, consensual, and fulfilling relationships with sexual partners.
Consent is about more than sex. It's about the idea that each person knows their own body best. One way of thinking about this is as body sovereignty. You make the rules for your body, and everybody else makes the rules for their bodies.
If you experience unwanted touching or homophobia at Notts Pride 🌈 this weekend, you can go into any venue that has signed up to the Safe Space Pledge - just look out for the Safe Space window sticker if you feel unsafe at any point. itsinnottingham.com/news/nottingha…
Consent matters for everyone - no exceptions. We all have the right to choose what happens to our body. #AtoZ #getconsent
It doesn't matter how much you had to drink, or whether you did or didn't watch your drink, being spiked is never your fault. @nottspolice take all incidents of spiking very seriously. And if you are in a Safe Space venue then the staff have been trained to support.
It's okay if it feels a bit awkward at first, as you get used to checking in with your partner. But there's nothing weird or cringe about getting consent.
If you experience unwanted touching or homophobia, you can go into any Safe Space venue - just look out for the Safe Space window sticker if you feel unsafe at any point. Peggy's Skylight and The Cosy Club are the official Safe Space venues for Nottingham Pride on Sat 26th July.
We often hear drink being used as an excuse for behaviour that ignores consent. Alcohol excuses nothing - boundaries matter regardless of how much booze is involved.
