Life hack: - Remote work from Portugal - Client in North Europe or US - Freelancing or Contractor Move to a smaller city with a low cost of living. Retire in 10 years.
Web4.0 should be about kindness on the internet. How disruptive would that be?
Sabes quanto custa o teu ordenado?
Some companies try to hire contractors but cannot find them. People are scared of earning more money because: 1) they don't know their value. 2) they are mislead by the promise of a contract without term. 3) they don't understand how the contractor model works.
Consulting companies business model relies on paying low salaries and selling high rates. There is an incentive to keep "low cost" resources and "sell them" as experienced tech gurus. Clients know this but there is so much need to hire they eventually have no option left.
Contractors can earn more because: Companies are willing to pay more for immediate availability and/or flexibility. There are huge tax benefits for contractors. And there is a catch: If they like you, there is a chance they would not let you go in the end of the contract.
The culture of a company is revealed by their actions, not by what is written in their website.
Job interview tip: never, ever, reveal your current salary. Just say how much you want to earn.
In many industries precarious employees are exploited with low wages and no rights. They are replaced in the end of the contract and go jobless without any compensation. In IT this is seldom the case. In the end of the contract there are new opportunities for a raise.
A contractor can get ~70-90% of net income. With 60K/year charged by software services, A contractor can get ~40-55K of net income. It is a big improvement of net income an employee would get for the same expense for the employer.
In Portugal we have decent salaries in IT. The biggest problem are high taxes. A company with a 60K/year budget to expend in salary will be left with around 44K (after paying TSU and other obligation) 44K Gross will give a NET SALARY of 27K.

Software Producer could hire a top talent contractor for the same rate being paid to Consulting Company B. Hiring contractors allow: - higher paying job - more employee satisfaction - more retention - resource allocation control - direct rate negotiation
There are consulting companies that hire developers to be put in client A. Client A is itself a consulting that puts the developer in client B. Client B develop custom software for client C. Client C is paying all the margins for that developer. This is common in 2021.
