Dr Twycross worked until his death to highlight the fundamentals of good care.
The IAHPC mourns the death of Dr. Robert Twycross, an outstanding pioneer of the global #palliativecare movement. His life’s work made a lasting impact on the recognition of PC & lives on in IAHPCs vision of a world free from health-related suffering. bit.ly/3NzVdn3
The level of complexity that GPs, DNs and community palliative care teams are trying manage for people at end of life is growing due to lack of staff, time pressures, archaic prescribing policies, IT clashes, ambulance waiting times, social isolation and OOH shortages.
It can take many hours to get a medication to someone distressed at end of life. It’s just not given the priority that other emergencies are given in medicine. The consequences of delayed relief are my biggest fear in palliative care
