Republicans Might Have Just ‘Walked the Plank’ Over Climate Jobs

In the framing of this great @DKThomp piece, my piece for @heatmap_news this week suggests a policy mechanism that can shift the dial on clean energy away from “backyard politics” to actualize the virtues espoused in “front yard politics”: heatmap.news/politics/telec…

The ‘90s Cellphone Law That Could Speed Up the Renewables Rollout

Local governments once fought the adoption of wireless communications technology. Then Congress did something.

New piece from me on a very 21st century strain of political hypocrisy that I call "front-yard politics," how it so often distracts from substantive "backyard policies," and how linguistic radicalism everywhere so often distracts from substantive progress theatlantic.com/ideas/archive/…

The Dangerous Rise of ‘Front-Yard Politics’

Many public crusaders are private reactionaries.

As we build our way out of the climate crisis, local communities deserve a say in how and where we build, but not a veto. Congress can help clean energy proliferate just as quickly as cellphones did. Read more @heatmap_news: heatmap.news/politics/telec…

Add this coverage to your renewal questions for all your commercial clients. Work with a wholesalers beforehand to understand the coverages before you wade in! #ActiveShooterRisk

Add this type of event to your disaster plan. The Big I offers a information on developing a disaster plan. This type of incident we often think: "It can't happen here!" Reach out to local law enforcement agencies; they often train or can recommend experts. #ActiveShooterRisk

Have written WPV Policy Inform and train employees on what to do in a violent situation Communicate that policy to all employees Establish an effective EAP Limited access to buildings Security on premises Exit interviews Threat Assessments Disaster recovery #ActiveShooterRisk

Don't forget that some of these policies may include pre-loss assistance/collateral The last thing your insured wants to do is be caught without a critical incident response plan should a violent incident occur. #ActiveShooterRisk

And that figure was from before social media announced these incidents to millions within seconds

FYI to the underwiters - the last research revealing the amount per claim is $500K was published in the 1990s. The true current amount of risk is currently 10x's that amount at least given the duty to defend and duty to indemnify @PC_360 #ActiveShooterRisk

How do underwriters price these policies? What is the premium base? Are rates filed?

Initially these policies were embraced by university school systems municipalities. As a minimum premiums can be as low as $2000 we’re seeing lots of churches daycare‘s auto dealerships yoga studios restaurants pretty much every industry as nothing is immune #activeshooterrisk

Also, any of these incidents arise out of personnel/domestic violence that comes into the workplace, so NO BUSINESS IS IMMUNE today from an #ActiveShooterRisk

Similar to the introduction of cyber. agents and brokers need to review this coverage as we were seeing massive lawsuits and litigation regarding these mass shootings and I feel agents and brokers can and will be held accountable if they do not share. #activeshooterrisk

In states where extra contractual statutory bad faith litigation is permitted, an agent may be brought in as a possible defendant as well, or even in a common law theory #ActiveShooterRisk @PC_360

Tim Dodge reposted

As an agent, we want to never answer the question: "Why didn't you tell me there was a coverage I could have bought that would have protected my assets?" This can fill important gaps like public relations assistance, rebuilds, increased security, training, etc. #ActiveShooterRisk

Tim Dodge reposted

yes 100% agents are sometimes named in litigation under theories alleging they failed to properly review all risks with insureds. Review those circa 2022 risks, get the insureds to sign off on documentation & keep that evidence safe in the event of a lawsuit #ActiveShooterRisk

Restaurants, bars and taverns, businesses near where people congregate for example near arenas, and certainly school and public agencies all have heightened concern, so demand only grows as awareness of this critical coverage increases. #ActiveShooterRisk

"It'll never happen to me"

Lucy why do you think not enough businesses and employers feel this coverage is necessary in today's environment #ActiveShooterRisk
