God today is going to be spin shit show on Twitter. I have one contribution to make: R100 to anyone who name a single time, ever, the ANC changed its position/policy without the prospect/reality of a court decision going against it. Think that’s all that needs to be said really.
But let’s be honest without the @EFFSouthAfrica and @Our_DA urgent court application and subsequent submissions to halt VAT increase, pressure would not have been put to reverse VAT decision. A lot of the parties claiming victory right now had conceded that VAT increase was…
After the DA’s opposition to VAT in cabinet, parliament and the court, Treasury had no choice but to reverse its VAT hike decision. Our decisive court action has delivered its intended result. At every step, the DA fought to protect South Africans. 🇿🇦
All this debate around who influenced the VAT decision is hilarious. I mean it’s perfectly clear: Gondwana filed an affidavit 100% defending the VAT increase in every sense. He then asked to settle, after he was torn to shreds in court. I mean it’s not rocket science.
VAT increase got thwarted by either the DA/EFF court case or internal ANC politics, or both. It definitely didn’t get thwarted by ActionSA or any of the smaller parties who voted for it please 😂 you’re alive by the good graces of others today. Be grateful and quiet
What has also been lost in all the analysis - pseudo and real - is that a deal to commit to real economic growth reform was imminent when it had the rug ripped out from under it by ASA and BOSA agreeing to support the fiscal framework.
✅ 94% of the visa backlog gone ✅ new record for Smart IDs issued ✅ re-establish Immigration Advisory Board ✅ arrested 27 corrupt officials ✅ deported 46 000 ✅ launched Trusted Tour Operator scheme ✅ opening new/upgraded offices around the country @Leon_Schreib is cooking
🚨 An important post from the government confirming that VAT will increase, ActionSA lied to South Africans: x.com/GovernmentZA/s… ActionSA and the ANC were joined in passing this VAT Budget by the IFP, PA, GOOD, RiseMzansi, UDM, PAC, Al Jama-ah and BOSA who collectively have…
Enoch Godongwana is not having any conversation about 30-days to explore alternatives to a VAT Hike. He is defending and rationalising VAT hikes and measures he thinks will cushion its impact. I hope this helps all of those who are under the illusion that they have stopped or…
The so called pro rich DA is heavily objecting to the increase of VAT no matter what percent today in parliament. They standing with the poor which also has support of COSATU. Shocking everyone in SOUTH AFRICA , the VAT increase will most likely be implemented because of…
Over 90% of public who made contributions on the VAT increase to parliament said they oppose the VAT increase. Over 90% ‼️https://t.co/pRXOCaTqZ4
As best as I could make of Athol Trollip's confused speech: "ASA 100% opposes a VAT increase; also we will 100% vote in support of this fiscal framework with a VAT increase (and hope it gets changed later)". I dunno, like trying to make sense of a scribble.
Their voters also owe South Africa an explanation. They were also warned. But they voted for them anyway.
#Budget2025 Report of NA Finance Committee The Committee accepted the 2025 Fiscal Framework & Revenue Proposals. DA, MKP & EFF rejected the report The NCOP Finance Committee also accepted the Framework Both Houses will consider their reports tomorrow pmg.org.za/tabled-committ…
I am seeing a lot of media reports that say ANC and Action SA have reached a deal that blocks the 0.5% VAT hike today in the Finance Committee. This is patently untrue. Action SA has asked that there be a recommendation in the Committee report, not an amendment to the fiscal…
🚨 ActionSA has done a deal with the ANC to pass a 1% VAT hike over the next 2 years, making life more expensive. The DA condemns this sell-out tactic by ActionSA, which has worked with the ANC to adopt the Budget and has condemned South Africans to a higher cost of living.
The department of Public Works has a big budget. It was one of the department's that had the biggest corruption in South Africa. When GNU was formed the DA's Dean McPherson was appointed minister. He instantly started cleaning up. Believe it or not the department did not even…
Sad day for democracy in South Africa as disgraced John Hlope ( Dr Hlope) who was the first judge to be impeached in democratic South Africa will be allowed to represent Parliament in the Judicial Service Commission (JSC) This is a mockery of the judiciary. This is a mockery of…
⚖ Protect Our Judiciary: No to Hlophe! 🇿🇦 It is neither reasonable nor rational to elect MK Party's Dr Hlophe, found guilty of gross misconduct, to the JSC. We must uphold judicial integrity and protect our courts' independence and effectiveness. Read more:…
