Teaching (DHT, science and maths)

Leadership is more pay. That is why everyone who is SLT has gotten to where they are. It isn't a vocation or calling. More money and less teaching 😉

I have been a member of SLT now for over 10 years and still don't know what I am doing a few times every day.

If I ever write a substack or blog post unfollow me.

Teaching is a job. It isn't a place where miracles happen. Those peddling such nonsense do it to serve themselves.

It strikes me that schools often construct alternate realities, most often in lesson observations where teachers are often told they're doing the wrong thing by people who have no idea what they're talking about.

No names mentioned, but I find it ironic that one of the big names in #edutwitter has recently lamented the exodus of teachers from the platform, when they have an ego visible from space and a track record of being rude and condescending to colleagues just for disagreeing🤷‍♂️🤦‍♂️

To be honest, I think that Jodie has probably had enough of huge fans who wanted to get close to her... 😂

Finally got to hold hands with Jodie Foster today having being a huge fan for about 40 years...she didn't even object ❤️❤️🤣🤣

Remember when teachers had gained time, to prepare for the next year...? This is an example of the constant erosion of teachers' free/creative time and yet another contributing factor to people leaving this profession.

We are now entering the most unequal part of the year in terms of workload for secondary school teachers. Many will be saying goodbye to Y11 and 13, but sadly others will have no gained time and have their exam classes for many weeks ahead. Not fair at all.

The other super negative aspect for new teachers to be mindful of is the shear amount of virtue signalling done by other teachers on here. "Look how much marking I am doing this weekend" being typical. Up to you if you mark out of school, but many don't do this at all.

Teaching gets more manageable with the passing years. It can take over your life and this is the main danger for new teachers. It is a job. Seek help from those around you and resources from anywhere you can. Don't believe all that Educelebs spout. Just pick out the rare nuggets.

So, despite all we've learned, despite the Perry family's pain, despite the clear ethical contradiction, Keir Starmer has chosen to nod through Amanda Spielman's peerage. The same Amanda Spielman whose leadership at Ofsted corroded trust and dehumanised educators...
