Photos: Capitol View Elementary builds ofrenda for Dia de los Muertos
Students from Des Moines East High helped elementary students from Capitol View build and decorate an ofrenda on Tuesday ahead of Dia de los Muertos.
The best part about world languages is that language learning happens with any content. The Spanish and Art classes @LHSrails collaborated to share Latin American legends with their school.
Languages, cultures, and people are are always intertwined. @MeredithHuskies Spanish teachers- including @iwla Middle Level T of the Year- raised funds to support Puerto Rico through the latest hurricane. Great turn out and raised $400! @DMschools

Input-process-write-share is important in all languages for all learners. This cycle can happen in 10 minutes, doesn’t need to be complicated and over multiple days. Teachers used multimedia texts, reflected, wrote, and shared with each other about best practices in WL teaching
Getting in all four skills (reading, writing, listening, and speaking) doesn’t take long in French class. Students did a read> think> write> speak cycle in 10 minutes @DMPS_Academy
Sharing opinions in the TL using phrases in highly familiar contexts after lots of input and scaffolds. Students did a great job @DM_North responding and sharing.

East High School has partnered with Iowa Legal Aid to create our free School Law Clinic. This clinic will provide free legal services to all DMPS students, parents & families. The clinic will be open every first Wednesday of each month from 9am - 1pm.
