Literally nobody listen to me for the next few months but: every city should have a designated clubhouse for heartbroken (& otherwise actively sad) people, where you can go be in public but without anyone expecting you to be normal. Like a place where you can go order a latte,…

Men used to provide for women by hunting food and building shelter. Anyone could do it if they tried hard enough. Or they just died. But nowadays, a man’s ability to hunt and build is measured by his ability to generate numbers on a screen selling some scam. It makes no sense

Majoring in philosophy made me an expert at coming up with edge cases, a valuable lifelong skill. For example: a measuring cup just used for water—still clean, put it back. But what about a pot used to boil eggs?

It's easy to imagine a future in which gen alpha deeply resents their millennial parents for filling their world with slop and conjuring up an imaginary 90s where all art was amazing.

As a generally pro-AI 41 year-old parent, I've been surprised how anti-AI my 12 year-old son is. I'm used to young people being pro- new technology (I certainly was). But my son is genuinely pretty negative on AI. Still processing why this is.

We are the only species that feels a "moral" obligation to others. We rescue birds, we talk to plants, we feel grief for extinct species we never even met. Evolutionarily, that’s a lot of "wasted" energy unless it was actually our primary function.

We’re meant to be shepherds and gardeners and teammates and storytellers btw. What’s being stolen from us daily is actually priceless

I genuinely think that our purpose as humans in the eco system was to care for all the other species. Why else would humans have the capabilities of projecting emotions and empathy onto literally anything? It's because we were supposed to care. And now? All we do is destroy.

Something deeply wrong with gainful employment. This isn’t a normal state of affairs. I’m not even talking about the 4HL part or the humiliation of it all. It’s bizarre that you need to have this long time horizon and plan how you will stitch together the next stint of employment

In my early 20s, I once went to the gym twice in one day because I had the energy, which was very unusual. I asked my therapist, "Did I have a manic episode???" And my therapist laughed and was like, "No, Rachel, you just weren't depressed that day. For whatever reason."…

I just told my friend that I felt like someone might of dosed me with a small amount of LSD because the vibe out there is good today and the music sound wonderful. She gently suggested I may just be in a good mood.

Periodic reminder that the VAST majority of people are lurkers & if you post regularly online at all you are not only in the top 5% of unhinged people on the planet, but your posts are now being used to train AI systems where a part of your unhinged soul will be imprinted forever

Most people who are hyper online by the way, the most addicted, they aren’t even posting.

Everybody from Plato, through the Zohar, down to Nietzsche agreed that you shouldn't teach the mysteries to the normies because it would fry their brain. But modern enlightenment democratized reason & demanded that everyone be taught, and now we're dealing with mass psychosis.

i feel a total disconnect with the past when i consider the ‘electric can opener’. these were real, and ubiquitous. why? even if you ate canned food every meal, this seems excessive. there was, apparently, a kind of glory in electrifying any process: i cannot imagine feeling this

Gets especially weird when you start seeing information they are not aware of. This was a big reason I used to avoid looking at peoples faces because it was incredibly uncomfortable to look into parts of their souls they couldn't see.

Peoples’ bodies are LEAKING information. All the time. Nonstop. The most ‘once you see it you can’t unsee it’ thing I’ve seen

Is there a term for the mild but persistent agitation you feel from interacting with every day objects that are cheap and low quality? Things that "work" but are poorly designed so you need some extra effort every time you use them.
