Your baby's height and weight are compared with those of babies who formed the norm group used in compiling the norms, which might be years ago. Norm-referencing is not the same as cohort-referencing. The problem with our current exam system is that it is more cohort-referenced.

Not doubting chemguide but need to know for sure..

Chem A Level help needed! First ionisation energy down a group: chemguide says shielding is irrelevant as effective nuclear charge remains constant. I.e. higher nuclear charge and greater shielding cancel. Only variable is therefore distance from nucleus. Two OUP and the CGP…

Fascinating.. unfortunately not going to make them much easier to remember though!

I honestly never bothered to remember the order of all the western(/Babylonian/Hindu) zodiac signs before... until I learned the Thai month names 👀

Not expecting to speed things up or be read but if you find this from searching for 'transcripts' and @LondonU because you're wondering where the fill in the blanks letter and transcript you requested and paid for is, there's a chance you'll still be waiting 2 months later

Think this rather misses the point of the DoE scheme: it's about getting kids to do stuff beyond the curriculum: community stuff, outdoorsy stuff, with the aim of helping them become a bit more well rounded. It's not about looking great on your CV.

Do you know what’s a massive fucking scam? The Duke of Edinburgh award. My daughter’s school is asking £120 for the “bronze award” and they still sell it as “it’ll look great on your CV.” Not once has anyone asked me or taken an interest in whether I have it.

Tunbridge Wells would cease to function

Every year of mocks that goes by, it's clear from a few cases that the exam board's locked recent papers are becoming less secure (a quick search on tiktok etc. shows why). Could exam boards extend their embargo on papers to include more than just last years? @ndbrning @ocrexams

This seems pretty significant news, particularly for private schools still in TPS. Confirmation of the inevitable in some ways but haven't seen much discussion out there.

The Scheme valuation report has been published. It confirms a need to increase the employer contribution rate by 5% from 1 April 2024 to ensure that the Scheme continues to meet present and future obligations. Read more on our website today: ow.ly/yCWt50Q2AwT

We also run fantastic research projects in STEM together - for example both schools worked using a scanning electron microscope we borrowed from the Natural History Museum and will report their findings at the STEM Research Conference later this month.

Our partnership with The John Wallis Academy is stronger than ever. Our pupils thoroughly enjoy taking part in the mentoring programme we run with the school, this is alongside our successful Combined Cadet Force and careers-focused evenings. @ISC_schools #powerofpartnerships

This is one of the Science Department's highlights of the past year. A number of students are writing up associated research and collaborating with schools & universities to produce a paper. Fantastic having research experience as a number start amazing STEM courses at university

Coke and silver ions almost as cool as Coke and Mentos... #Chemistry

Doesn't the rounding of nearly all relative atomic masses to integers on GCSE periodic tables just reinforce the misconception that it represents the mass number of all atoms of an element? What's the rationale? Are decimal places intimidating?
