Me, a wheelchair user: “Don’t you have an accessible exam table?” X-Ray Tech: “You should have told us in advance that you needed a special table.” Access for disabled people isn’t “special.” Stop blaming disabled people for your access failures.
So much more to examine. Paramedics say they have no training for de-escalating difficult cases (incl. post-seizure aggression). Health authority has said nothing at all so far. If you're an editor interested in health system failures/homelessness, I'm freelancing + available.
There is no shelter/housing plan yet, but the police plan is already in week 5 out of 9. Based on interviews (and my own observations as a resident of downtown Victoria), one thing is clear: unhoused people are being moved from block to block, with nowhere to go. #yyj #yyjnews
A homeless man w/ a severe brain injury punched & kicked a paramedic, while coming out of a seizure. Outreach + police said man needed help & is not a violent person. But the incident prompted a homeless encampment removal plan by police in #yyj. My first for @globeandmail:
