She's calling for Harperian numbers. Still far too high.

Premier Smith is calling for immigration to be scaled back to 50,000 a year, focused mostly on provincially selected economic migrants. Services should prioritize citizens and permanent residents, she says, blaming post-COVID federal policies for straining budgets across Canada.

And for something never mentioned or alluded to even once by a "pastoral council", standing for Communion was incredibly rigidly enforced in some places: shockingly, on one occasion in the 1980s, the Canadian Supreme Court had to step in! (pic: The Tablet, 23 Mar 1985, p. 310)

For the record: standing for Communion is never mentioned: - in SC itself; - in any spoken/written intervention on SC at the Council; - in the explanations of SC given at Vatican II; - by the Council's Preparatory Liturg. Commission; - in the pre-conciliar «vota» of the Fathers.

Is Anglo-Canada content to serve merely as the country's institutional janitor and scapegoat in the history wars? Or does it want to reinvigorate itself as the largest bedrock of Canada, as Mark Carney described it? Bedrock is not invulnerable to decay, and a country as fraught

This report into the breakdown of the Canadian refugee system by the former director of policy at IRCC and a former member of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada should be a major scandal. In a sane country, heads would roll, starting with the ministers who oversaw this

And yet, strangely, Yuen Pau Woo remains at large.

In 🇨🇦, a “Jimmy Lai” case would be prosecuted under the Foreign Interference & Security of Info Act, which prohibits surreptitious or deceptive conduct with intent to influence a political or govt process in association with a foreign entity. The max penalty is life in prison.
