Building in public: researching DevOps for startups 🚀 Founder @AstraDevOps | Sharing lessons, asking questions, maybe building something useful
I’m researching how startups handle DevOps (CI/CD, infra, monitoring, cloud costs, etc). I’ll share what I learn here. If you’re an early-stage founder/engineer, would love to hear from you — DMs open 🙏
Question, did you start with a monolith application? Or went straight to microservices?
For very early startup technical founders, did you start with a monolith application? Or went straight to microservices?
Question for technical founders, when did you first automate deployments? From day one or after you started feeling the pain of manual deploys? I've heard divided opinions on this matter
What do you use for CI/CD right now (if you use any at all)? GitHub Actions, CircleCI, Jenkins, custom scripts? How did you decide?
Do you stick with one cloud provider early (AWS, GCP, etc.) or mix and match based on free tiers?
For early-stage teams: do you use Terraform or any other IaC or do you just spin things up manually at the start? When do you usually decide to codify infra (if you do at all)?
I’m trying to understand how early-stage founders handle DevOps when building their first product. From what I’ve seen it’s usually either no setup at all or a messy mix of SaaS tools. How do you approach it?
Every early-stage product I’ve worked with, infra setup always takes longer than expected. Curious here, do you spin it up quick and fix later, or do you try to get it "right" from day one?
For folks building early products, what’s been the biggest DevOps headache? Infra, pipelines, monitoring, security, testing?
I’m exploring how early-stage startups handle DevOps — infra, CI/CD, monitoring, cloud costs, etc. My goal: learn where the real pain is. If you’re a founder/engineer, I’d love to hear your story. DMs open 🙏
For founders & early-stage dev teams: what’s your biggest DevOps headache right now? • CI/CD • Infra setup (AWS/GCP) • Monitoring/alerts • Cloud costs Curious what’s eating most of your time 👀
I talked to a few startup CTOs this week Things I have heard the most: 1. Cloud costs are very hard to debug 2. CI/CD pipelines are weak or non existent 3. Monitoring is only relevant when things are already broken Does this sound familiar to anyone here?
Am I the only one that gets worried when deleting an S3 bucket that hasnt been used in years because someone else can take the bucket name now?
