I've had a Racket in my head for a while, so thought I'd record it over lunch today. Not testing related, but this time personal finance focused. "UK folks, should you overpay your mortgage?" @racket100 - racket.com/thepireatetest…
Had a discussion earlier about trading allowances in the UK, so we thought it would be good to let people know that you can earn up to £1000 per tax year from side hustles, tax free. But after, HMRC will want to know. More details at the link below. gov.uk/guidance/tax-f…
Our next episode is going to be explaining how investing and the stock market works. We have ideas of what we want to cover, but we would love to get any extra ideas we may have missed from all of you. Please comment below, or DM us.
For some, building up savings & wealth is to allow you to retire, have financial freedom, and do what you like. But have you considered what you would do when you get there? Lee would love to hear from you, over on @racket100
A thought I had after reading some finance blogs, and decided I'd ask between meetings: "If you could afford to retire today, what would you do with your time?" @racket100 - racket.com/volleys/81889
Listened to a podcast talking about life insurance. Got me thinking about what I have, if I want to change it, what I want to happen if I die early, and learning about a type I hadn't heard if before - family income benefit policies. Weird being interested in life insurance...
Screenshot of our recording tonight, ending up at a whopping 1 hour 8 minutes! Pensions are not a light subject people!
Getting ready to record this, and hope it helps people learn things about they didn't know, encourage them to pay in if they aren't already, or maybe even increase the amount they are paying in.
Tonight we have been planning our next episode - Pensions! The more we talked about what we want to cover, the more apparent it is just how much information there is on it, the different rabbit holes to get lost in. Made us wonder does it put people off wanting to learn?
Doing research for recording our next episode, taking about payslips - Income Tax, National Insurance, Student Loans, and tax relief from job expenses. It's complicated, but we intend to help it make sense for those of you in the UK.
If you join the scheme, your employer has to contribute too. You also get tax off your pension contributions, so not only is your employer paying in, but so is HMRC - a double win!
