Grateful for the chance to speak with Clark University students on the first day of their "Marketing to You" course. What stood out was the energy in the room - thoughtful questions, sharp insights, and genuine curiosity. Great to see the next generation of leaders so engaged.
This is so true. Creating space for more junior team members to speak up is important - they’re often closest to the work & offer valuable perspectives. As leaders, we benefit from making a conscious effort to listen actively and encourage quieter voices to share their insights.
The people who dominate the conversation often have the least to say. Being the loudest voice in the room doesn’t gain respect. It crowds out the contributions of those who speak at a lower volume. It’s better to leave people wanting to hear more than wishing they’d heard less.
Interesting data from Blue Ridge Partners on how the Operating Partner role is evolving. As exit value creation becomes more challenging amidst market uncertainty, PE firms are leaning more heavily on OPs with deep functional and sector expertise lnkd.in/grSvzcxr
You don’t need to chase attention to earn respect. Doing great work, being accountable, and showing up consistently speaks louder than self-promotion. Take the time to understand what your leader is trying to accomplish, contribute more meaningfully and grow faster in the process
Flexibility isn’t about lowering standards - it’s about knowing when to adapt approaches, empathize, and stay accountable. Great managers balance structure with human understanding. A skill that’s increasingly essential in today’s business world. forbes.com/sites/niritcoh…
Last month, Reuters reported that more retailers are exploring take-private deals in response to market uncertainty. Skechers is a great example - it's a strong brand, whose market valuation took a hit amid recent volatility. With the majority of shares held by the founding…

Retailers pummeled by Trump's trade war entertain more 'take-private' offers
Retailers have been hard-hit by Trump's rapidly shifting tariff announcements, and are frustrated with an inability to provide earnings guidance.
You never know who you’re sitting next to. Years ago, I was on a flight for a business trip, reviewing a document with our company’s logo on it. The woman next to me glanced over and said, “Hey - I work there too!” She told me she was a cashier at one of our stores, working her…
Although this article was first published more than 25 years ago, its advice still holds up: not all conflict is bad. The “good fight,” as the authors call it, is about debating ideas, not personalities. Managed well, it leads to better decisions, stronger teams, and more trust.…

How Management Teams Can Have a Good Fight

Instead of asking “How did I do?” try “What’s one thing I could do better?” Adam Grant’s comments here are a great reminder: the best leaders focus on forward-looking feedback. It’s a simple shift that encourages growth, not just reflection.
Instead of seeking feedback on how you did, it’s more effective to seek advice on how you can do better.

As we move through 2025, Bain's latest PE report continues to resonate. Deal activity is slowly rebounding, but exits are still a challenge - making value creation the main focus across the board. In retail, that means the bar for investment has never been higher. PE firms are…
