In order to fully understand #leanmanufacturing and design, it is important that we explore where it began. The origins of lean date back to the 1940's. 80 years later and the theories and systems have had a worldwide impact and continue to be developed and studied today.
Waste is any activity that increases time, effort or cost, but adds no value to the customer or business. Waste in an activity or in a process can have a negative impact on profitability and employee morale. Here are the 8 main sources of waste in the workplace. #wastemanagement
#Gemba is a Japanese term that means "the actual place." When using the term in #leanpractice and design, Gemba means "the place where value is created." This can range from the emergency room of a hospital, to the shop floor of a manufacturing plant. #GembaWalk
1. Identify necessary from unnecessary items in the workplace 2. Arrange items to promote efficient workflow 3. Keep the workspace neat and clean 4. Develop standards for a consistently organized workplace 5. Review and maintain standards in order to sustain new practices
