If you try to add tests to a huge pull request after you consider it done, it will never be done.
When a departing colleague hands you over a huge pull request, don't even try to integrate it as-is. Break it down into small pull requests that you and your reviewers can digest.
The goal of a code review is to get feedback, not to get approval. The bigger your pull request, the less meaningful feedback you will get. Instead of submitting too big pull requests, break them down into small chunks that you'd also be happy to review.
People can be incredibly insulted when the owners of their workplace want to set the directions. They shouldn't tell you how to write software, but they are perfectly right to set the directions and priorities.
Why are you chasing promotions? If it's for the status, you won't find happiness. Go for the progress, not for the title! For more details, check out my review on The Goal. sandordargo.com/blog/2022/04/3…
Don't hoard information as a developer. Document and share all the knowledge you have. You'll be more valuable like that and you also help your colleagues.
Every problem you face is an opportunity to grow as a person. Try to observe your life with that in mind at least for a week and see what happens.
What is the goal of a business after all? Making money. If you break it down, the goal is to increase net profit, while simultaneously increasing both ROI and cash flow. For more details, check out my review on The Goal. sandordargo.com/blog/2022/04/3…
Instead of blindly following ideologies that want to solve the big problems of humanity, focus on the little problems first. Pick something small and commit to it. If you can solve small problems try to solve something bigger, something more ambitious. Go step by step.
No wind is good for a sailor if he doesn’t know where he wants to go. Probably the most important thing in your life is to have a goal. Without a goal, you don’t know… …you don’t know just anything at all. Dedicate regularly some time to think about your goal!
Do you keep putting in extra hours for your job? Have you thought about the why? One reason can be family patterns observed as a kid. Check out my review on The Goal. sandordargo.com/blog/2022/04/3…
Imagination is more important than knowledge. If you have a clear vision, you'll find the knowledge.
Do you see any good reason for 3 months long notice periods?
We are so often selfish. We think we are neglected, while the others are simply facing serious issues. Do you feel neglected by someone? Ask them if they are all right and whether you can help them somehow.
It's often easier to get a higher salary by changing jobs than by going the extra mile at your job. But when you change jobs you also take a risk and it has to be paid for.
How do you separate yourself from bright lights, movement and staring people if you work in an open office? Have you ever worked from under your desk?
You teach people gradually, according to their level of experience. You don't share the same level of details with entry-level engineers and seniors. It's better not to overwhelm people and give more and more details as they progress.
Things are not perfect. It doesn't mean that those imperfect things cannot add up to a perfect experience.
Sometimes you have to let people do the bad things so that they can learn. And once they failed, don't tell them that you told them so. Give them a hand instead.
In order to learn, you have to become patient and tolerant with yourself. That should also show you the way how to deal with others who need your help.
