Teacher student in the quest of bringing democratic, consent based and self-directed education to the classroom.

Even in Star Wars (or The Mandalorian in this case as I'm watching the second season, so no spoilers please), with all that imagination, they still show a classroom as a line of desks and kids sitting in front of a teacher (in this case a robot)..come on!! We can do better!

Is mediocrity the accepted level to thrive in this world?

In a short way, how would you define conventional schooling to someone who is not using such term? Just curious to know how others would do this!

What do you do when a student looks at you in the eye and say that they hate school?

In your opinion, is it possible to talk about antiracist education without addressing the characteristics of conventional schooling and ageism for example?

The more I hear experiences from other people, the more I'm surprised of how Finland is challenging the concept of whiteness. What might be considered as white in most parts of the world, here isn't. It would be worthy to dig deeper on this for sure.

Conventional schooling talking about social-emotional learning. Opinions?

The biggest critics of self directed education have literally no idea what it is. It’s hilarious to hear their theories about it.

"Self-directed learning" is a privilege confined to very few students who have a specific set of knowledge, skills and expertise. In that sense it's about as far away from an "inclusive" education as you can get.

Is it normal in other non-English speaking countries that a faculty of education would host a conference regarding international matters in higher education in the national language and not accesible in English? Asking for a friend

Does anyone else see a problem in here? This is how my university justifies their lack of inclusion of international people and accessibility in general.

Thank you for the feedback. Indeed #StudioLipasto discussions are mainly aimed for wider Finnish-speaking audiences. Sometimes we do English only broadcasts like we did about climate change in February. We try to balance & be creative. youtube.com/watch?v=0U0SV3…

Link to a report regarding hate issues towards inmigrants in Finland. You won't hear about these things when they talk about Finnish education. Do you think Finnish education is doing anything regarding these matters? antiracistforum.org/together-again…

Would this apply to schools as well? What do you people think?

Words from a Finnish educator regarding their working conditions. Teachers in Finland are on a strike for the second time this term.Meanwhile, all one can listen from outside of Finland is that teachers are respected professionals and many other myths. Let's face the reality.

For the people refering to Finland as the best education in the world, how do you think that such idea reflects in the life in there? Or how do you think that having the "best education in the world" shapes the reality of everyone living there? I'd love to get some answers.
