Nothing junior about leading an arrest team. Nothing junior about looking after the entire hospital overnight. Nothing junior about deliviring life-saving treatment. This is a welcome change, part of the cultural shift towards greater respect towards the profession.
🚨We have a new title: BMA Residents 🚨 A long time coming, and after much hard work, junior doctors will now be called Resident Doctors. This new title better reflects their huge range of skills and responsibilities. Read more about the change here 👇 bma.org.uk/news-and-opini…
So, @TheBMA @fletchjack it turns out that almost 70% of Drs polled actually SUPPORTED the strikes! @wesstreeting commissioned a survey for the sole purpose of lying to the public through @thetimes to score political points. He even brought a copy to the interview. For Shame.
We have known this for weeks. Most Media very much on Streeting’s team & happy to use the unrepresentative poll to demonise res doctors & BMA. Not so keen on subsequently admitting to the public the true facts of the poll on their front pages…the damage had been done, success!
I’m an IMT1 working in London. If I’d applied this year, I wouldn’t even have got an interview. This broken system is not fit for purpose, and is failing excellent doctors who just want to progress in their careers. The Government can’t sit on their hands any longer.
Patients need doctors, and doctors need jobs. Yet, it’s harder than ever for residents to get into Internal Medicine Training (IMT). The Government needs to fix the specialty training crisis NOW. bma.org.uk/our-campaigns/…

A constructive suggestion: The government should have much less propaganda against those who work in the NHS, and much more funding for its budgets. A majority of doctors supported the recent strike. Why did the Dept of Health suggest otherwise? theguardian.com/commentisfree/…
This also makes it clear why the media remain silent on the important issues of patient safety. It is sad that we cannot trust our politicians nor the media as to the truth
Majority of doctors backed the strike. @DHSCgovuk briefed the opposite. When a public body has to bend the truth to win an argument, that tells you everything about the argument. Does the government actually want to negotiate in good faith and resolve the doctor dispute?
We warned the Govt this would happen and this is just one specialty - we’re worried there is more to come. Whilst they are turning away thousands of doctors from jobs, we have reached out to NHSE to do what we can whilst waiting for the Govt to finally listen to us to fix this.
This week, thousands of resident doctors have been turned away from NHS jobs – as we warned the Government they would be. We are calling on NHS England to urgently address this situation. The specialty recruitment process is not fit for purpose & must be fixed once and for all.
The recruitment system in England is a utter disgrace. We now have fully trained NHS doctors who cannot find work. Every medical leader who stood by and let this happen should be ashamed. This is a total failure of workforce planning. Doctors deserve better than this.

Internal medicine (IMT) now requires 22/30 points on the portfolio score to guarantee an interview (if applying to other specialties). How is an F2 doctor supposed to have a portfolio of this standard? Essentially locked out of direct career progression in a medical specialty.
To whoever the "government strike negotiator" is: The only way out is a proper path towards full pay restoration - paying doctors £23/hr. And, fixing the unemployment crisis. Strike turnout is only increasing. The government need to find a way out of the mess they've created.
Spoke to a senior government strike negotiator last week. They told me 'The BMA know they've got themselves into a terrible position [on the RD strikes]. We're doing our best to help them find a way out.'
People want doctors Doctors want jobs I know. Let's just make it EVEN HARDER for good doctors to get jobs The public will be the ones that are affected when there is a shortage of consultants in the very near future @wesstreeting can fix this today. He just doesn't want to
Hearing the minimum score needed for an internal medicine training interview has shot up from 15 last year to 22 this year. Essentially a 50% increase in the number of points required just to get an interview is criminal. Completely pathological and unrealistic expectations.

Successive governments have completely failed doctors. Imagine training for 8 years, accruing 100k of student debt, and then finding no job at the end of it. Patients are waiting longer than ever for appointments and yet doctors can't get jobs. Insane. share.google/1OiTsxS3nCx58W…
[1/16] Deeply flawed and completely misleading modelling from Medifintech’s own @gdcuk Graham Crossley at @Quilter. Here's why the £125k pension headline is erroneous, misleading, and deeply flawed 👇
When @gmcuk have previously admitted to a significant financial risk if there’s a reduction in demand for PLAB is it really any surprise they continue to exploit IMGs in their running of it and oppose UK graduate prioritisation as a means to address the specialty training crisis
Reading the GMC workforce report, you’d think the biggest crisis is IMGs not getting into training Meanwhile UK docs can't find jobs and are leaving early When the GMC earns millions from PLAB, it’s easy to see why its priority is IMG recruitment rather than fixing bottlenecks
Normally the GMC is very tight-lipped... But in this GMC workforce report they are very actively trying to undermine the policy of UK doctor prioritisation, supported by the BMA and @wesstreeting @fletchjack @PJWang12 @DocShivSharma
