I'm so proud of these two fantastic DBBS students, it has been a pleasure and honor to mentor them and I can't wait to see what they do next! Congratulations Dr. Ellie Gaylord (left) and Dr. Liza Loza (right)!!
Wrapping up another great molecular Mycology course at MBL. Couldn’t do it without help of amazing scientist TAs like Robert Zarnowski, Charlie Puerner, Ellie Gaylord, Katrina Mar, Rohan Wakade, Sandeep Vellanki. Thanks so much!!
Colleagues in the midwest studying fungi and parasites - check out this terrific regional meeting. Lots of opportunities for trainees to present, great speakers, and registration/meals are free. Hard to beat this combo!
My honor to hood @KeeleyChoy, and a lovely day for the lab to turn out to cheer for her. Look forward to her thesis talk in a few weeks! Congratulations to all the graduating @WUSTLdbbs students! @WUSM_MolMicro
Micro colleagues, be aware of the major changes in Cellular Microbiology (editors, content, indexing, review, etc) since it joined Hindawi. On the positive side, they refunded the publication fee when we belatedly realized how much the journal had changed and withdrew our work...
Kudos to @D_Agustinho, who spearheaded this project to identify natural genomic variants that influence cryptococcal virulence. Our strategy worked beautifully to discover a causal variant with a big influence on virulence–more to come! @ScientistAtLarj biorxiv.org/cgi/content/sh…
Happy to share these beautiful studies about ergosterol transport in C. neoformans, done by @KeeleyChoy with help from Ellie Gaylord. Two talented and insightful Wash U DBBS graduate students – it’s a privilege to work with them! @WUSM_MolMicro @WUSTLdbbs biorxiv.org/content/10.110…
Picked up a local newsletter today and saw three new board members of a business organization described respectively as 'bubbly' (a lawyer), 'outgoing' (a realtor), and 'invaluable' (an entrepreneur). Guess which one was the man in the group! This gets tiring. Words matter.
New initiative from my department - take a look and pass on to recent/imminent doctoral graduates who might be interested in an alternative to a traditional postdoc. And meanwhile happy holidays to everyone celebrating light in a cold winter! @WUSM_MolMicro

Impactful words by @CarolynBertozzi today on how diversity in her trainees enabled creativity, not playing by the rules, and ultimately the work that built the field of bioorthogonal chemistry. Diverse science leads to better science!

Cheers to @WUSTLdbbs @WUSM_MolMicro student Daphne Ko on her successful thesis proposal today! Also appreciate great suggestions from her thesis committee, @thegoldberglab, @MarioFeldman9, @GarciaLabMS, and @doctrue2.
Please pass along - terrific science, wonderful colleagues, and a great place to live!
Happy to reconnect with colleagues - looking forward to the next few days of science!
My lab enjoyed hosting @Acaron0907 from @TCU this summer to study lipid transport in C. neoformans. Terrific job Alex, and great mentoring from @WUSTLdbbs students @KeeleyChoy and Ellie Gaylord! @WUSM_MolMicro #DBBSAmgen2022
Great to be at the MBL again, with mycology colleagues and a terrific group of students - my favorite place for nonstop science and stimulating conversations. Thanks directors for having me here! @davidrandes @cramer_lab
Molecular Mycology course #MOMY 2022 in full swing. Great morning seminar by Tamara Doering! All things cryptococcal capsule biology @MBLScience
Good day for graduate student Ellie Gaylord in my lab - a department fellowship award and a talk at the crnd.nd.edu/news-events/ne… meeting next month! Congratulations!
