All languages covey information at a similar rate when spoken (39bits/s). Languages that are spoken faster have less information density per syllable! One of the coolest results in linguistics.

Pseudo-intellectualism today is the belief that there is no wisdom to be gained anywhere but in the cold hard facts of scientific reasoning. It’s such a spectacular act of ignorance and denial of human history that it has to be intentional; a kind of “look at this babbling fool…

McMaster-Carr has the greatest website of any company in existence other than maybe Berkshire Hathaway. Pure function. No bubble people playing ping pong, no chat bot in the bottom right, no waste at all. The site is a tool, like all their other tools. And it serves its purpose.

how come a company founded over 100 years ago has the fastest site on the internet?

So far the Melancholy of Resistance gets better every page. I am not bored of the style or wishing things pick up at all, but I worry I might soon

I ran into one of the Buffalo Sabres in the elevator at the Prague hotel. They were in town to play the New Jersey Devils. He invited me to the game but I was performing that night.

Hey Siri, summarize The Sunset Limited but make it sound like you’re yelling at me

You’re not “high iq”, your obsessive introspection is stopping you from being authentic and crippling you with a false sense of superiority that you’re too important to enjoy the small things in life, too esoteric for the smallfolk to understand, too proud to be happy, and in the…
