Full season points format would be my top choice. 10-race chase as an alternative option.
With all the talk of possible changes coming to NASCAR’s championship format, what would you like to see? 🏆
1. Drivers/teams race the format as it is. 2. They'd race differently under different formats. 3. Being within 90 points while missing 1 race is close enough in this playoff format. 4. Being ~200 points ahead while missing 1 race and losing the title is ridiculous in any format.
As I said, when every race is a game seven, none of them are.
One of the sad things about the championship in this format is that many fans are anxious about the “right” driver becoming champion, rather than being excited over which driver could become champion. Hopefully, next season sees a return to a full season or similar format.
