It can’t be a good sign that almost no brands have put up Pride branding this year. Clearly they have assessed that supporting the LGBTQ+ community is a bad business decision at the moment.

This really resonates. My confidence is shot since the pandemic and it’s been a real struggle to connect back to the world as a result. Throwing myself into forced social situations like Tostmasters has helped a bit but still don’t feel like my old self.

In today’s @guardian: Will we ever go back to the same level of confidence that we had before the pandemic? (The estimate is that it takes 30 years for society or community to recover from a major disaster) theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2…

Incredibly sad. What a loss for South Africa.

Celebrated analyst, broadcaster and author Eusebius McKaiser has died after suffering a suspected epileptic seizure, his manager Jackie Strydom told TimesLIVE on Tuesday. timeslive.co.za/news/2023-05-3…

You would really think the country with chronic power shortages would lean hard into green energy.

Is it just me or is ChatGPT getting dumber? Is it because it is speaking to people?

Come on @sarstax. You offer an option to set up video chats with a tax consultant and then when the time for the meeting arrives 3 weeks later you still haven’t shared the video call link. EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Why not just get it right?

Been thinking about this a lot in the last few days. AI should mean happier people with free time, but capitalism will never allow it. Instead everyone is just trying to stay ahead of the curve and to use it to prevent themselves being out of a job and out on their ass.

Chat GPT-4 looks astounding. It feels like we’re soon going to have to figure out what happens when vast swaths of the workforce have significantly less work to do.

As VCs begged for a bailout, they wailed about how much society needs them, raising the question: Does it really? slate.trib.al/BEu48cV

Incredible how quickly all of the Silicon Valley Libertarians expect government bailouts when their livelihood is on the line.

This is really heartbreaking. Go buy something from a small business if you can today.

It’s scary to see the reality South African small businesses are facing right now 💔

Why is my timeline suddenly full of the most insufferable crypto bros and right-wing shills? Is it because they’re the ones paying Twitter blue?

There’s now evidence that we’re past the peak of fossil fuel use in electricity production and in combustion engine vehicle sales.

Internal combustion vehicle sales peaked in 2017. They are down nearly 20% from that peak, and have no real route back. My latest: bloomberg.com/news/articles/…

When politicians start resorting to arguments about constitutional obligation to explain the absence of a basic service it’s safe to assume there is no resolution coming.

To avoid crowds, visit areas that are less crowded.

Microsoft Teams is honestly trash. It is unusable.
