My problem with the “he wouldn't actually do it” and “institutional checks will step in to stop him” arguments regarding Greenland is that we are in this position precisely because, at every prior stage, he did do it and institutional checks failed to constrain this lunatic.
This is why historians need to put him at the bottom of the list, because while every other bad president was bad for how they handled crises, Trump invented the crises. As bad as Buchanan or Pierce were, they didn't invent the slavery question.
It's just insane that every "crisis" of this administration has been invented from whole cloth and is completely inorganic in its emergence. Every catastrophe plaguing Trump 2 is a catastrophe he deliberately created, for seemingly no reason. Guess who wouldn't have done this!
