Reading a book about manuscripts in Philadelphia as I'm visiting soon, and I happened to see that this miniature in the Temple University Library is very similar to one at auction right now. Venetian artist "Master of T.ยฐ Ve." drouot.com/en/l/31240777-โฆ

Earlier today a Book of Hours illuminated by artists in the Bedford-group was sold in Bayeux for 620,000 EUR + fees. One of the interesting features are the curious bas-de-page, which are also found in another Bedford-group manuscript. blog.earlynetherlandish.com/curious-bas-deโฆ
One of the oldest German altarpieces: the Soester Gnadenstuhl (Throne of Mercy), c. 1250-60. Very manuscript inspired.
A small auction house in Belgium is selling this 19th century painting as if it is 15th century. Very dishonest of the auction house and the consignor to imply that because the panel is old, that the painting is from the 15th century. It's a very intentional scam with involvementโฆ
Sold last year at Koller, now this carving is going back for sale at Christie's at more than double the previous estimate. Despite the Italian notname, the Rimini Master was probably Netherlandish or Rhenish. In my view, it is one of the better Rimini group carvings for sale inโฆ
This exquisite miniature is attributed to Petrus Christus (c. 1410/20โ1475/76), one of Brugesโ leading artists in the decades following Jan van Eyckโs death. It represents the Throne of Grace (German: Gnadenstuhl), one of the most significant iconographic types for depicting theโฆ
Took a look at a live auction in Spain today. Literally 95+% of the lots went unsold. They all use the same tactic, spam a lot of overpriced junk onto the market. I think there's a big opportunity to create a high quality auction house in Spain. Despite having much less volumeโฆ
The auction coming up at Audap shows that it is possible to put together a collection of medieval art on a budget. Many of the items are estimated low and will probably sell low due to being fragmented or in bad condition. The seller likely spent much less than the already lowโฆ
Estimated 4-6k, sold 10k today at Ader Auctions. Described as Lower Rhine, circa 1340-1360
Miniature boxwood altarpiece. From the collection of Anselm von Rothschild, Waddesdon bequest WB.232, @britishmuseum
Imagine digging this up in a field...
Nice to see one of the artworks go back to the home town of the artist.

Marvelous trompe l'oeil! "Portrait of Johannes Kleberger" 1526 (dated and signed) Albrecht Dรผrer
I underbid on this at Van de Wiele auctions in Bruges. The buyer still got a good price considering it is signed and has a donor portrait.
