By the same logic, an increase in health, education or social care spending would also maximise jobs, growth and skills. Except we’d also have more and better hospitals, schools and care homes, rather than just more bombs.

Our increase in defence spending will not only keep us safe, it will maximise British jobs, growth, skills and innovation across the UK.

What the government can’t afford: ❌Lifting children out of poverty ❌Disability benefits ❌Compensation for WASPI women ❌Winter fuel allowance What the government can afford: an extra £13.4 billion on the military. Never any money for the poor. Always enough money for war.

A 2% wealth tax in the UK on people with over £100m (like France) would raise £30bn a year. It's time to tax the rich.

The Guardian illustrate this typically braindead comment piece with a pic of Starmer at RAF Akrotiri on Cyprus, the international hub to support the Gaza genocide. This is what "defence" budget is. It's a budget for imperial wars - and transfer of public funds to arms industry.

When politicians like Keir Starmer claim there is no money, it is always worth recalling what money actually is.

I am only about a quarter of the way in but Killing the Host by Michael Hudson is essential reading for anyone trying to understand modern politics and economics. Revelation after revelation, especially on the corrosive nature or rents and unearned income. 1
