A map using data from UC Berkeley researchers shows which parts of Berkeley contribute more to climate change.
A new data mapping tool from @EcoDataLab and @CoolClimateNw holds powerful lessons. The U.S. has a housing shortage of appx. 20M new homes. Building in climate-friendly city neighborhoods can lower greenhouse gas emissions by the equivalent of 43M cars. nytimes.com/interactive/20…
🧵Housing density near jobs & transit is climate action. Sprawl fuels climate change. This map of the Bay Area says it all. “Households in denser neighborhoods close to city centers tend to be responsible for fewer greenhouse gases than households in the rest of the country.”
NY Times released maps that illustrate in stark terms what we know: the denser the neighborhood. the less the emissions per household. To fight climate change, we need denser cities, more housing near jobs, biking, walking & transit. It's as critical as anything we can do.
