A map using data from UC Berkeley researchers shows which parts of Berkeley contribute more to climate change.
A new data mapping tool from @EcoDataLab and @CoolClimateNw holds powerful lessons. The U.S. has a housing shortage of appx. 20M new homes. Building in climate-friendly city neighborhoods can lower greenhouse gas emissions by the equivalent of 43M cars. nytimes.com/interactive/20…
🧵Housing density near jobs & transit is climate action. Sprawl fuels climate change. This map of the Bay Area says it all. “Households in denser neighborhoods close to city centers tend to be responsible for fewer greenhouse gases than households in the rest of the country.”
NY Times released maps that illustrate in stark terms what we know: the denser the neighborhood. the less the emissions per household. To fight climate change, we need denser cities, more housing near jobs, biking, walking & transit. It's as critical as anything we can do.
I'm so super proud of my friend @bgould4berkeley whose climate work is featured in the @nytimes nytimes.com/interactive/20…
A great look at regional differences in carbon pollution across the US, including an estimate of consumption-based emissions. Hint: housing policy is climate policy too… nytimes.com/interactive/20…
Our work is now in the New York Times - check it out below!
New data has revealed stark disparities in how different U.S. households contribute to climate change. Looking at maps of America’s cities, a pattern emerges. nyti.ms/3WespTo
A brief 🧵 on why scope 3 emissions analyses are important!
Maybe I'm biased, but I work in the field of Scope 3 accounting and think there is some value. Yes, decarbonizing your own stuff that emits should be priority #1. But many cities & companies are already doing that, and wondering - can we do more?
