I couldn't believe it when Hollande organised this march ten years ago. It was as if the politicians there wanted to parody their glaring racism. They couldn't have made it clearer whose lives they value, and whose they don't.

When 12 people were k!lled in Charlie Hebdo attacks, World Leaders thronged to Paris for a Solidarity March. But no world leader has organised a march to protest killing more than 100,000 civilians, 30,000 children, 207 UN aid workers, and 171 journalists in Gaza.

My latest piece (co-authored): Many Cubans put it succinctly: 10 years ago, there was hope. Now, there’s despair. “You go on the street, and people’s smiles are fading,’’ said Adriana Heredia Sánchez, who owns a clothing store in Old Havana. nytimes.com/2024/12/27/us/…

A decade ago, Barack Obama announced one of the biggest ever breakthroughs in US foreign policy. My latest piece looks at how and why US-Cuba “normalization” was smashed to pieces. dropsitenews.com/p/ten-years-af…

my latest piece: “It’s much more lucrative, and much less hassle, to work in other parts of the world — even Mogadishu!” said the director of one European tour company. “It’s only a personal love for Cuba that keeps us bringing visitors to the island.” ft.com/content/75c830…

“Whereas the Trump administration bragged about how its “maximum pressure” sanctions would cripple the island, the Biden administration has kept the core of the sanctions regime in place, but flat-out denies that it has anything to do with Cuba’s crises.” My latest dispatch:

Through days of blackouts and shortages, we report from Cuba, where ordinary people are paying the price for years of tightening US sanctions. jacobin.com/2024/10/cuba-s…

“The U.S. Department of the Treasury blocks tankers that have delivered oil to Cuba, which drives up the island’s fuel costs, because Cuba has a limited pool of suppliers available to it.” My latest article, co-authored, for @nytimes nytimes.com/2024/10/21/wor…

Oil tankers delivering fuel to the island can be sanctioned… The US has hit Cuba with more than two hundred sanctions over the last decade. Economists say they cost the economy billions of dollars a year. The goal? Regime change! My latest report: youtube.com/watch?v=J1FTc9…
