We are aware of the Court of Appeals' decision today allowing county prosecutors to enforce Michigan's archaic abortion law. We anticipate swift appeals and will support however we can. In the interim, please know that in Washtenaw, our office will NOT be prosecuting. Period.

Even though SCOTUS’s new precedent argues “tradition” as a baseline for substantive due process. You can’t just cherry pick history. If that’s the case, Justice Thomas would probably have to end his current marriage. Something conveniently dodges in Dobbs.
Same-sex relationships have been accepted by many cultures throughout recorded history, most notably Ancient Greece and Rome. Both are prominent ancestors to our political institution.
The government has no place in dictating who you can marry. Love has no set definition, and to believe otherwise denies what is clearly self-evident to the human experience.
Despite a particular Senator’s ramblings, Obergefell v. Hodges was properly decided. The freedom to love should be considered elementary to substantive due process.
If Merrick Garland hides behind the institutional concern about not appearing partisan and lets Trump slip away by declaring himself a presidential candidate, he will do serious harm to rule of law and the principle no one is above the law.

SCOTUS cannot be selective in how it interprets federalism. You cannot toss abortion to the states, and then in the same breath, deny New York’s right to regulate gun ownership.
It’s necessary for people to have the right to choose. The Dobbs decision has hurdled us into post-Roe America. However, this principle cannot and will not rob us of what we know is inherently true. We Americans deserve autonomy over our own bodies.
