For my last research seminar at the #BritishLibrary, I laid out the entire history of cataloging at the library on this one table.
The Asian and African Studies reading room at the #britishlibrary seems to have the friendliest readers – here are some of the #thankyou cards that have been sent to staff and displayed on the counter. #librarylife
#ThingsDiscoveredAtTheBritishLibrary – a collection of relief #maps, different countries all modeled with their hills and valleys. This is Poland.
#ThingsDiscoveredAtTheBritishLibrary – a collection of photographic negatives, so big that many of them are not yet been catalogued yet.
#ThingsDiscoveredAtTheBritishLibrary – books that used to be kept inside other books, because book binding used to be a bit of a bind.
#ThingsDiscoveredAtTheBritishLibrary – the India Office collection including histories, memoires, islamic poems, songs and a book about “The Happy Union”. (V 10302 to V 10360)
#ThingsDiscoveredAtTheBritishLibrary – huge collections of scientific documents – this one is from a whole wall devoted to Russian patents.
#ThingsDiscoveredAtTheBritishLibrary – all the children's comics and annuals that we read when growing up (and possibly still do). Unfortunately no one under the age of 11 is allowed into the Reading Rooms!
#ThingsDiscoveredAtTheBritishLibrary – a huge foreign language collection, much begun by Thomas Watts in the 1840s, who had “mastered all the Celtic and Slavonic tongues, as well as Hungarian, and to make some progress with Chinese, Russian, Polish, Hungarian, Danish and Swedish”
#ThingsDiscoveredAtTheBritishLibrary – lots of cardboard boxes containing very colourful newspapers which turned out to be Czech and Romanian theatre reviews.
#ThingsDiscoveredAtTheBritishLibrary – some very old art books but containing some stunning reproductions.
#ThingsDiscoveredAtTheBritishLibrary – a huge multi-headed sculpture left over from some exhibition I think.
