Stepping back and staying present this year.
Stepping back, staying present & observing play centers joy & risk, but also trust & self-knowledge. Stepping back supports safe, loving, nurturing environments where children’s emotional needs can be met. There is no conflict between stepping back & emotional safety & growth.
All Kindergarten teachers should read Jeynes (2006) as a reminder before going back to school. Kindergarten is designed to be very different than all other grades for a reason. Strive to be those foundational roots, trust your instinct, and know you are doing a great job.🌱
"without guiding or interrupting" 👏 #embeddedassessment
When we consistently step back, observe play, & listen to children, we can be present & adjust our proximity during play without guiding or interrupting. We can do this because we have a more accurate knowledge of the child’s abilities. We show the child that we trust them.
