Big thanks going out to our final seminar series speaker: @amalexathorn! Tonight’s seminar was a real treat and we all learned a great deal about archival research and popular archaeology. Thanks again, Amara!

Amara’s research has also uncovered many popular archaeology books which were written but never made it to print!

The celebrity that came with giving lecture tours made publishing a commercially viable endeavour - this helped archaeologists to successfully pitch their books to publishers in the late 19th / early 20th centuries.

Looks like a fabulous talk by @amalexathorn - wish I could be there!

Amara’s interests concern how British archaeologists projected themselves in print and in film during the late 19th / early 20th C. She explores the landscape of publishing for archeology at the time, looking at what archaeologists were putting out there for a general audience.

The loss of publishing archives in WWII and a lot of mergers between publishing houses in the last few decades has made Amara’s archival research quite complicated! Only those in black from her list are still publishing today.
