It is deeply disturbing that organisers of the #NotMyKing protest in London have been arrested this morning, before the protest even began. Whatever you think of the monarchy, the right to peaceful protest is fundamental to democracy. This is a chilling violation of that right.
The food bank round the corner is closed today because of the coronation. People are going hungry while £250,000,000 of our money is spent on an unelected King born into unimaginable wealth. He doesn’t know hunger, poverty or deprivation. Our country is in political crisis.
£250,000,000 of our money will be spent on the King’s coronation — when a crown is put on a man’s head who we never even voted for. Meanwhile there’s no money for free school meals, food banks, the justice system, women’s refuges… let’s prioritise the 99.9% not 0.01%.
