Mandhiri - மந்திரி (right hand man to the King)

Rook is elephant cavalry, Bishop is camel cavalry, Knight is horse-mounted cavalry, King and Queen are what there are, some parts of India refer to Queen as Vazir, which would roughly mean Prime Minister, the pawns are infantry.

Hatti, Ghoda, Uoontha, Raja, Rani, and Paida.

Divya, Arjun, and Vaishali are all Indians, but each speaks a different mother tongue.

Paadri

“ऊँट” (oonṭ)

The pieces of Chess, when it was invented in ancient India, are- Chess - Chaturanga (4 types of Battalions) King - Raja (King) Queen - Mantri (Minister) Knight - Ashwa (Horse) Bishop - Rath (Chariot) Rook - Gaja (Elephant) Pawn - Sainik (Soldier)

I was taught that it's also referred to as ರಥ (रथ) (rath) meaning Chariot. They are heavy, have fixed path and very difficult to change direction, crushes anything on its path

Given that Unt/Wazir is what Indians used since they created it, Bishop is not what it's originally called anyway

In Dutch: Bisshop = Loper (walker) Knight = Paard (horse) Rook = Toren (tower)

Spanish: Alfil

Biskop, but we call the piece 'løper' in Norway, and that translates to 'runner' (I belive as in 'the king's right hand', sort of, the one that runs his errands and such)

Clearly the Spanish word Al-fil comes from Arabic!
