This is an opportunity to get control of TLDs in the legacy DNS authority structure and create a way to bring it on-chain with interoperability. We can link multiple layers on the stack and allow people without "blockchain" experience to buy and use blockchain powered domains.
We (Chris from Blink Labs and Patrick from NMKR) told CF to put more focus on the months of collaboration that has already gone into this. We've been working with Handshake protocol and Roberto from CF for over 2 years on decentralized DNS infrastructure.
