We had a spotty surprise on a recent visit to Wensleydale in North Yorkshire. While some of the local rivers have dry periods, we wouldn't usually expect to see one without water in the autumn time. Here, @ProfJGrey encounters a very tenacious fish 🐟

One of the great things about living near the Forth at this time of the year is the geese migration. Tonight’s showing was one of the best I’ve seen in years. Here’s a short snippet.

The rivers around the Forth face many pressures which impact salmon, eels, otters and other wildlife. Some pressures also impact communities that live along our rivers too. Find out about these pressures and how we are tackling them in our feature film youtu.be/YYhYl7A2lNg
A small waterfall on the Scouring Burn as it passes through Laighills Park. To the right of the falls is the paddling pool - once a hive of activity. An attempt by community volunteers to clear the pool was halted by S.E.P.A. and the Forth District Salmon Fishery Board in 2021.
Kate O'Neil, Marine Biologist, was lucky enough to spot a #swordfish in the Firth of Forth yesterday: "I was really excited when I realised we were watching a swordfish, a species that (to the best of our knowledge) has only been recorded in Scotland a handful of times!"
Our PhD student Perla is currently working from her home country of Cuba, and recently visited the British Embassy in Havana. Great to see FORTH2O research being represented internationally – and lovely to get a glimpse into this beautiful building!
