Relationships are Everything (pt. 2) Having 2-3 (or more) friends who share commitment to one another can change your life. In friends, you find courage. And in courage, you find belief. As Clarence from It’s a Wonderful Life reminds us: “No man is a failure who has friends.”
Relationships are Everything (pt. 1) For the first time in my life, I had a summer entirely to myself. I kayaked in NC, backpacked in CO, went fishing in OR, had family dinner every Sunday night, and served in my church. In relationships I rediscovered purpose and joy.
You Can Be Content Without Being Complacent Definitions: - Contentment: peace with what you have and who you are - Complacency: unaware self-satisfaction One expresses thankfulness, humility and joy. The other ingratitude, pride and apathy. Be content, not complacent.
In 2013, I was the #1 overall pick in the MLB Draft. 5 years later, I was called “the biggest bust in MLB history.” Today, I’m working my way back, and I’m here to share both the hard-earned lessons I’ve learned along the way🧵👇
Those who are worth it find a way to endure it. It’s the journey that makes the trip worthwhile. Sweat equity is the currency of the successful.
“We can't solve problems by using the same kind of thinking we used when we created them” -- Albert Einstein
“Everything shows up in your catch play. We get on the mound probably twice a week for a bullpen, once a week in terms of a game. So we're on the mound maybe three times in a week… how are we going to get better at being a professional target hitter?” @kirk_saarloos
I think this general culture is slowly changing throughout the league, but it's frustrating that it's still the norm. Most coaches need to learn to trust the feel/ intuition/ feedback from players a lot more than they currently do.
Part of player development should include trying to help the player become what they want to be, not just what the coach wants them to be.
"My delivery feels really smooth...if I went out there and tried to throw harder, it would probably be less...any time you jump, that's when my front side flies open...it's more [about being] relaxed and letting it fall in line."
Jacob deGrom on his mechanics and front side.
“Plenty of teams in every sport have great players and never win titles. Most of the time, those players aren’t willing to sacrifice for the greater good of the team - which only makes their individual goals more difficult to achieve." ―Michael Jordan #TheChampionsMind 🏆 #app

Don’t mind us, we’ve just been watching Chaz Roe sliders on a loop all day...

If you need to gain/lose weight to reach your goals and don't execute on that, you don't want it bad enough. There are a lot of uncontrollables in baseball. Nutrition is not one of them. Eating breakfast, adjusting calories, etc. are simple tasks that require one thing: effort.
