The chief lesson and study in divinity is well and rightly to learn to know Christ. —Martin Luther

A church that wants multiethnicity but refuses to visit our divided past will stagger in its gospel efforts!

Joe Biden is not asking for my advice concerning his vice-presidential nominee; but if he asked me, I would tell him he needs to consider Condoleezza Rice. As a political independent, though, I guess I WOULD have a ridiculous thought like that. It would have a unifying effect.

I had a conversation with a pastor--who is also a Greek scholar--concerning why, in 2020, we are still talking about slavery. I explained that if "slavery" (in America) was a Greek verb, it would be of the Greek perfect tense--completed action with ongoing results/effects.

A good possible signal that someone isn’t doing anything about anything is you only know what they are against verses what they are for!

Saying “nobody’s perfect” isn’t an invitation to remain the same.

What a great everyday reminder from the mayor of Jackson, Tennessee.

Here’s a Sunday reminder. The pandemic isn’t over just because you’re over it. Be safe.

One of the purposes of the wilderness is for God to show you that He IS God.

As a believer in Christ who stands for social justice in the context of biblical justice, I believe my social justice activism MUST NOT be about MY “fair share.” Perhaps we are not all working from the same starting point (context) when referring to “social justice.”

Since this is an era when many people are concerned about "fairness" and "social justice," what is your "fair share" of what someone else has worked for?

Having life in Christ, I think I could talk forever and a day concerning the trouble with personal and cultural relativism; but given such awareness of the ills of relativism, I had better get quiet and examine just how relativistic I am—especially in the context of my faith.

J.I. Packer’s 6 things a Christian should tell themselves everyday: 1. I am a child of God. 2. God is my Father. 3. Heaven is my home. 4. Every day is one day nearer. 5. My Savior is my brother. 6. Every Christian is my brother too.

I've been blessed to have wonderful friendships across racial/ethnic lines; but I need to be reminded--every now and then--that I live in Tennessee. I apologize for the language in the video below, but--in too many instances, in the South--it is the "heart language" of racists.

Sometimes a younger preacher will ask me, “Bro. Steve, got any advice for a young preacher?” Yes & here it is: Pray! Pray! Pray! Pray yourself hot. Read! Read! Read! Read yourself full. Then turn yourself loose & Preach! Preach! Preach!

The two greatest challenges posed by the Covid-19 crisis, for those of us who have life in Christ, may be related to (1) just how sufficient Christ is in our lives and (2) just how much we love our neighbors.
