I am Sofie (PhD, affiliated professor), a #geologist and #palaeontologist working with #palynology, researching #biocrises and #climatechange in the Earth's past. I am a #WomanInScience who loves research, but I will not lie. It's not been easy.
Yesterday we had a very full “Paleozoic and Mesozoic Palynology”. Many numerous and great speakers. This was followed by a talk in the “Role of paly in carbon sequestration” session. The Conference Dinner followed in a beautiful beach front restaurant #AASPTPS2025
The palynology community has lost a fab colleague and friend. Rest in peace, @DrMartinPearce
We are saddened to hear of the death of Martin Pearce. An independent consultant and authority in Cretaceous dinocysts, both taxonomy and biostratigraphy. RIP

New paper🚨. Here, @linneuni PhD student Femke van Dam et al report findings of methanogens deep within the Siljan meteorite impact structure. With astrobiology implications. Incl @riikkakie link.springer.com/article/10.100…
Wow! Look at that impressive fern 🤩🌿
In a remote Philippine rainforest, I once entered a glade of giant ferns - thicker than a human thigh - slowly uncoiling themselves like snakes.
The Board of Directors and our committees have just had their midyear meeting along with some extra future palynologists! The society is in great order and hopefully our members and the future of #palynology will continue to reap the benefit
Rafael @rafadscruz and I are excited to share our new paper about fern fiddlehead evolution @CurrentBiology Read the paper at sciencedirect.com/science/articl… Want to find out more watch our video below 👇👇 @MPEG_Edinburgh @PalaeoJules @SBSatEd @EdinburghUni

Are hot spots fixed or not? Come with me as we investigate the Ninetyeast ridge, Earth’s longest preserved linear volcanic ridge and uncover what process caused the Kerguelen hotspot to move during its lifespan. Link: nature.com/articles/s4146… @CurtinMedia @JDLCentre
The Middle Ordovician saw the greatest rise in marine biodiversity accumulation in all of the Phanerozoic. While there is a consensus that this was instigated by global cooling, little is known as to why this cooling started 1/3

Great news! From the 18 November I am employed as senior geologist (geologist of the state) at the Geological Survey of Sweden - @sguSverige. Very happy about this 😊🌿
From MSc to PhD over a few countries and through a pandemic! Many congratulations to the new Dr. @MayaDodhia! It is a proud moment for the lab! Many thanks to an excellent co- supervisor @coast_change and committee @Plastisphere @elenagorokhova9 @VILLUMscience @science_ku
