As a #firstgen I struggled with "academic professionalism" during graduate school & on the market. Was I polished enough? How loud could I be? Should I be subversive? Combative? Performative? I finally realized that a uni afraid to engage folx like me was not worth my time. 1/2
Some folks call it "Transparency" while we call it "Meta" Lessons. Either way, it's probably the most fundamental thing all college instructors should incorporate into their teaching for first-year and #firstgen students. Don't assume students know your *unwritten* expectations.

Something many new college students don't realize is that they can ask for specific resources that the library doesn't have yet. Sometimes you'll receive as inter-library loan, or the library may acquire it!

I’m #firstgen, and have an undergrad degree in English from a religiously affiliated university. I never really thought this could be my path. Lots of people told me it couldn’t be. Then lots of OTHER people I trust told me to go for it.
