Campaign Manager Clara Summers spoke on a panel at the OPSI Annual Meeting about the future of capacity markets. The future is uncertain, but there are ways to improve affordability now. Thanks to @NJBPU Commissioner Christodoulou for the invite and moderating the panel!

Great reporting on data centers and electric bills from @MorePerfectUS. We must safeguard consumer bills from the effects of massive electricity usage by big rich tech companies. youtu.be/YN6BEUA4jNU?si…

We Found the Hidden Cost of Data Centers. It's in Your Electric Bill
CUB's Sarah Moskowitz recently spoke on a panel, “The Price of Power: Solutions for Energy Affordability,” hosted by PowerLines at #ClimateWeek NYC. We advocate for everyday Illinoisans, so we were glad to share our knowledge with the clean energy industry's leading changemakers.

CUB recently appeared on Fox 32's ChicagoNOW to talk about spiking electricity bills and the need for policy reforms at PJM Interconnection, the nation's largest power grid operator. buff.ly/JJJ9Z9L
CUB's Sarah Moskowitz and Clara Summers were in Philly this week for the Governors' Technical Conference on PJM. CUB is working for reforms at the power grid operator to better protect consumers from electricity price spikes. Read our WatchBlog article: buff.ly/Bi6xQv5

Illinois' Summer of High Prices: An Update
CUB writes in our new blog: Data centers must be "good grid citizens. Since these are some of the wealthiest companies in the world, they should be able and willing to carry their costs. PJM and our state policymakers have the power to ensure that." buff.ly/HChZnB5

CUB's Clara summers: “The market can’t work until the interconnection queue delay is fixed."
PJM has failed for years to get more power on its grid, and now, ratepayers are about to pay the price. canarymedia.com/articles/energ…
A recent study in @pvmagazineusa demonstrates the value of interregional planning and transmission-- thanks to @GridLabEnergy and Telos Energy for highlighting this! pv-magazine-usa.com/2025/07/21/cle…
We thank the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for ordering the PJM power grid operator to take specific steps to finally update its interconnection queue rules to meet national standards. Read CUB's full statement: buff.ly/0UDeIRk

CUB Executive Director Sarah Moskowitz joined @WBEZreset with @SashaAnnSimons to discuss AI data centers and your energy bills. Listen to the full story here: wbez.org/reset-with-sas…
Amid an expensive summer, we received the results of the latest PJM "capacity auction": Another record-high auction price points to elevated ComEd bills next year. There's an urgent need for policy reform at the PJM power grid operator. CUB's statement: buff.ly/mTGg1eK

CUB on record-high capacity price: “CUB is deeply concerned that ComEd customers will continue to bear painfully high costs for another year, largely because of policy shortcomings from PJM.”
The first ComEd bills with a massive baked-in supply rate increase are hitting home for Chicago-area customers, and after a record heat wave in June, they may be in for some sticker shock. trib.al/a4JsyJ1
ICYMI: ComEd estimated the June 1 electricity price spike would cost customers an avg of $10.60/month. But the utility says some customers have seen triple-digit increases. A ComEd officials calls it a "double whammy": the capacity price auction + an unusually hot June.
Some ComEd customers seeing triple-digit bill increases as supply rate jump, heat wave converge trib.al/pYmu7Y8
For the 2nd straight year, PJM's capacity auction hit a record-high price. That threatens ComEd customers with even higher bills. And it ramps up the urgency for Illinois to pass strong energy legislation & for PJM to reform its poor policy. CUB statement: buff.ly/4zvKHyh

Thank you, @GovPritzker, for advocating for state representation on the PJM Board, to protect consumer interests.
Illinois has long been a national leader in energy — committed to delivering for our families and businesses. But PJM undermines our efforts and lacks meaningful accountability to the very states it serves. I'm joining a bipartisan group of governors in calling for reform.

PJM's capacity auction results come out Tuesday. What will it mean for ComEd customers next year? CUB's Clara Summers says auctions have been a raw deal for consumers--a major reason is the backlog of clean energy generators waiting to be connected. buff.ly/zA9nZfy

CUB fights plan to keep dirty power plants open, at customer expense: “There is a standard in ratemaking that costs should be prudently incurred. Since these costs are manufactured emergencies & are not prudently incurred, they are not just & reasonable.” buff.ly/eFj2m0f
