Every time one of us says, in some way: "IT IS HARD to be a woman/POC/LGBT+ person in board games" There are people who say, in some way: "THAT CAN'T BE TRUE, I have never seen a gamer/publisher actually be sexist/racist/homophobic." Let's break this down. (Thread)

The Confederacy existed for 5 years. Animal Crossing has been a franchise for 11 years. That means Animal Crossing is a bigger part of our history and we should build statues of our favorite villagers to replace the confederate statues.
This is a great illustration of the real problem- it’s not just the extreme actions we need to look out for, but the subtle lean towards suspecting people of color more so than whites. And I think @JibKodi did a great job illustrating that situation in this short.
Some are subtle, some don't show, but it's there. Racism is real. The day when Black Lives finally Matter, that's one step closer to equality.

Just left all board game groups on FB. It just made me feel gross. “Everyone has a voice” “everyone is welcome at the table” – No not the fuck at my table. Anyone against rights or the lives of black, lgbtq+, margainlzied groups are NOT WELCOME WTF. The complicity is gross.
Hey! Can people suggest to me books/other materials to read on diversity? So far the only thing I feel I can really do is follow and help amplify POC (since I don’t run any events) but I’ve heard there are good books and movies that white people should in take.

My poor father gave up his hair for a workplace competition! The many ounces of hair hardener we went through to achieve this was very worth it.
I made some kettle corn today. 1/4 a cup of corn kernels and 1/4 a cup of white (or brown) sugar. The house now smells like a carnival.
One of my big boys is enjoying the sun out in our catio.
