Ongoing rain causing slips all over our city. Big thanks to our team at Wellington City Council, and contractors from Downer NZ and Fulton Hogan who were out in horrible weather overnight clearing slips and trees. Heroes!!
Huge slip has taken out the northern end of Wilton Park. The fence has gone, and its back almost to the goalposts, and the ground looks very soft and unstable, with small bits of soil falling off as I watched. Fairly close to at least one house.
Huge slip has taken the end of Wilton Park out, fence at the end of the football field is gone and it’s almost at the goal posts. Looks very soft and likely to lose more ground down into Otari Wilton Bush. Sutherland Cres a shockcrete wall has come down crushing cars.
Contractors out through a very wet night clearing slips - these ones on Chaytor and Birdwood Streets, Karori. Heroes - thank you! It’s been exceptionally wet but asking our Roading management to update on key risk areas of the city and ongoing work on retaining/netting.
Today helped open #NZGamingDevelopers conference @Te_Papa. Growing high value industry - expects to be $1B in exports within 5 years. Breakfast later with Connie Kennedy from #EpicGames LA Lab. So much potential in Film and Game Development.
Wonderful turnout this ANZAC morning at Dawn to commemorate all those who have served our nation.
Great to be at the @CubaDupa mihi whakatau (official welcome). 🙏 for letting me be part of a special ceremony. I look forward to the extraordinary 🎵, 💃, 🍔 & cultural experiences in the heart of Te Whanganui-a-Tara (Wellington), the creative capital. #CubaDupa

A beautiful Wellington morning spent walking around Newtown streets with @Newtown Residents Assn and @laurie foon and @Fleur Fitzsimons looking at character and scale of housing to help thinking about Planning for Growth.
Planning for Growth on line forum - check out on Council website - you can view it now or at your leisure later. This is part of asking you about how and where we provide for needed housing. Do check it out, participate and have your say.
Predator Free Wellington going strong! Enjoyed catching up with PFW community leaders from across our city this evening. Part of incredible community effort driving our environmental restoration journey.
