Remember last year when I made a call-out for stories of the Orkney island of Eynhallow? I was commissioned by @grainne_gms on behalf of @HistEnvScot to create a folklore-memory map. I'm pleased to say this is now on show in an exhibition entitled 'In the Land, of the People'.

A pleasure to think and write about @KathleenJamie’s latest collection, Cairn, for @paperboatswrite. This book alongside several others of Jamie’s, prose and poetry, are on the shelves in Irvine (and will be heading elsewhere soon too).

Christina Riley from The Nature Library reviews @KathleenJamie’s ‘Cairn’. “The whole collection effervesces with the astonishment, the absurdity, almost, of life, and the privilege of living through it.” Read the full review at: paperboats.org/cairn #bookreview

There are still two weeks to visit 'In The Land, Of The People' at Fort George, before it travels to Perth in July. The show focusses on Scottish folklore and includes my handwritten folklore-memory map of the island of Eynhallow. Exhibition info here: historicenvironment.scot/visit-a-place/….

This is super, a great way of tying people and their stories to place, and the similarity to the to & fro of waves is a lovely visual metaphor. We need more of this!

Wreckage of an ancient ship found on an Orkney beach may have been buried under the sand for centuries until, like Skara Brae, it’s been uncovered by winter storms. Thanks to Sanday resident Jonathan Hines for this video. bbc.in/42JVzyl #orkney #wreck

Thrilled to hear Blindboy @Rubberbandits discussing Orkney folklore last night in Edinburgh (selkies, the Sea Mither & the Nuckelavee)! Folklorist Tom Muir got a mention too - his tales of the Finfolk/vanishing islands are woven into my recent folklore-memory map of Eynhallow:
